Yeah. Thinking about all the misunderstood “monsters” of fiction, the Frankensteins and the Beasts, and how more often than not people end up being the real monsters.

I feel like people create the fictional monsters as proxies, I think, for all of things about ourselves (personally and as a society) we’d rather not discuss openly.

Definitely. I think this is one of the appeals of horror fiction, the fact that it gives us a space where we can talk about the most difficult topics in a “safer” manner, without having to pull them all the way into the light.
