The Mesopotamian goddess of the underworld, Ereshkigal is most well known for her dealings with the goddess of heaven, and her sister, Inanna.

The Lady of the Great Earth
Rules the underworld
When Inanna came to her seeking to extend her reach into the underworld, Ereshkigal had her stripped of her clothing and power, killed, and her body hung on hooks. She eventually traded Inanna for Inanna’s husband, Dumuzid.
Sister, sister, shame on face
For dastardly deed so foul
Inanna rises
The jealous goddess,
Her domain a place of fear.
