Oh, yes. Can't pass this one up:

Bodiced brick by brick

Ere eternally entombed

Seeking sanguine soaks

Honeygloom's avatar

Phenomenal imagery🖤 I also love the first line, so good!

A.P. Murphy's avatar

"Bodiced" with bricks is oh so good.

That's pretty good Ken. I was going for questions with this prompt but I feel inspired to go for more now.

Ken Flyingheart's avatar

Do it, Ika! Still need to get to your writing, but I'm stuck on something atm. Expect me in a couple days, promise!

Ika Wright's avatar

Lol, no rush Ken. Everyone's busy being sucked by the biggest beast of all, life. But does my presence hound you? Just kidding. Just do what you need to do. There really is no pressure on my part, hope that releases you from that torment. 😂

I make it a point to read those who’ve read mine. I’m just trying to do too much right now. I have read Bitrot. Interesting piece!

Ika Wright's avatar

Thank you. It’s something I hear my husband talk often, bitrot that is and I have come to find it amusing.

What's behind this wall?

Knock all you want,

She probably won't knock back

Honeygloom's avatar

This is super creepy! I’d definitely knock and hope she knocked back.

Is it wrong that I recognised the name instantly and thought "I like her!" they suspect it was fabricated accusations. Still awful, whatever happened!

Honeygloom's avatar

She’s a fascinating figure for sure. I can’t judge, I love this stuff, too😅

I guess she and her husband were still pretty brutal people, there are accounts not connected to the trial of them both being into torture, but yeah, the trial itself was highly exaggerated. I read somewhere that she might have killed more like 60 people… which, I mean, is still a lot of people.

Bonnie and Clyde past lives 😅

Ken Flyingheart's avatar

Either way, Ray Russell's take on her was so good! But-- yeah, awful. The lot of the horror enthusiast, to be drawn to the repulsive.

Ika Wright's avatar

So do crime enthusiasts 😅 ehem... One fave is Ed Gein. 😶‍🌫️

Ken Flyingheart's avatar

Oh, sure. I know more about serial killers than I do about "normal" people. Ed Gein was a sweetheart compared to some of the other ghouls, like Jeffrey Dahmer. And our blood countess' body count was peanuts next to Gilles De Rais'. History has no shortage of monsters-- real OR imagined.

Ika Wright's avatar

Jeffrey dahmer was psycho, I should have probably made it clear it’s Ed Geins pieces that was macabre.

Dustin's avatar

Yeah, I recognized her name right away, too, and it excited me!

David Perlmutter's avatar

She used to be called "Countess Dracula", and that inspired a film by that name.

Honeygloom's avatar

Which i apparently need to see! It sounds wild.

So many bad films

About Countess Bathory!

Her infamy continues...

😂

Honeygloom's avatar

Movies and metal songs/bands😂 But we love them all anyway!

Bathing blood beauty

Youthful desires

Cheery pie sweetness

Gone bye and sigh

For facial body screams

Sure to drain the coffers suspension

Age rises tall tales be true to believers

That see wrinkles in times misfortune.

Honeygloom's avatar

I’m not sure what the line “for facial body screams” means, but it kind of drew me in. It’s such an interesting image.

Richbee's avatar

Picture youths facial screams . Picture blood creams to reduce aging wrinkles in time.

Caro Henry's avatar

Smell of blood pervades

In her cursed castle confines

Peasant girls silenced

Honeygloom's avatar

I love that you mentioned the victims and kind of took their point of view, really well done🖤

Ika Wright's avatar

Love the last line Honeygloom. Macabre prompt and beautiful Haiku

Honeygloom's avatar

Thank you 🙏

Stained blood on my hands

At my mistress’ command

Slain for my service

Honeygloom's avatar

Substack ate my reply I think??😅 I’ll tell you again that I love this! It’s such a harrowing take🖤

the long warred's avatar

Actually the Blood Countess seems pretty well documented.

Honeygloom's avatar

Sorry, I’m not quite sure what you’re referring to🤦‍♀️

the long warred's avatar

Elizabeth Bathory was called the Blood Countess. There was a book by the same name telling her story.

Honeygloom's avatar

There are quite a few books about her, two actually called the Blood Countess that I know of, both novels… so not historical fact. I got my information from historians, though.

the long warred's avatar

Interestingly, I can’t find the book I read years ago, same title, not the same book.

Honeygloom's avatar

Love this take! Such a harrowing haiku🖤
