Hair burns and skin cracks;

Eyes glaze, rendered fat sizzles.

Burn, witch, burn in Hell!

Ugh, such a brutal death.

Yes, though from what I've heard the peripheral nerves are destroyed pretty quickly so no pain is felt after that.

This was also kind of an homage to JRR Tolkien's "Funny Little Things " in the Hobbit; here's the Rankin-Bass rendition:

Actually, that seems to be a picture of someone burning a nudist, and appropriate because nudists were also burned at the stake although few people are aware of this because the "clothers" tend to keep such things out of the history books due to their bias against people who just want to live free of the entanglements of pants and dresses and such.

Another burning

We laugh as we hear them shriek

Yes. 🙌Witches, according to doctrines of the time, were masters of weather magic soooo wouldn’t a real witch just make it rain on her burning day?

Lake Como, Italy numbers speak is women executed for witchcraft. What that to say about a society that kills the child bearers? Accused by old cronies and neighbors for herbal remedies knowledge. Like killing off doctors for years of knowledge a loss to all too blind to see.

It actually was the old crones killed off most often. Generally it was women who were seen as a burden either due to being widowed or just otherwise alone and unable to fully support themselves.

Cunning folk, the healers of the day, we’re rarely accused as they were seen as a valuable part of the community.

There is so much misinformation out there about the witch trials, that’s partly why I wanted to focus on them this month.
