Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote a story called "Feathertop", about a witch who turns a scarecrow into a human being, and the consequences of such. I have to think he was the inspiration for the greatest one in popular culture history: that of "The Wizard of Oz".

Interesting, hard to say I guess. I know the Tin Man was inspired by Baum’s time selling oil.

We writers often get great ideas from those that came before us.

Shotgun aimed. Crow blamed.

Placed body on straw hat.

That was that. No more crows.

Corn on cob feast for all.

Lone man, held at stake

Guards against pest; yet can't stop

A thieving child.

Spooky! Calling him a “lone man” gives the impression that he might jump down off the stake if provoked. I like it🖤

😅 Had to google. Now just confused as to why it’s Dr. Syn and the tax man = syn + tax??? Were there a lot of grammar lessons? 😂

I always thought it was a play on “sin” since he was a vicar, and had been a pirate captain by literally killing a Captain Satan in a sword fight!😂

A scarecrow speaking is one of my worst nightmares. Excellent nightmare fuel🖤

I was a scarecrow

Stuffed with hay, I stayed that way

Like Christ, I stepped down

Interesting take! I’m not sure I understand though as I am not religious, so please forgive me if I’m totally off base. It seems a scarecrow stepping off its cross would be dereliction of duty, but Christ actually did fulfill his duty by not stepping down. So yeah I’m confused 🤦‍♀️Sorry😥

Actually you got a point there..

Yea I confused the metaphor basically. I just had this image in my head of a scarecrow stepping down all noble and omnipotent. Didn’t mean any offense.
