As for tomatoes, you can add potatoes to that...and peppers. They are all in the Nightshade family (Solanaceae) which have varying degrees of toxicity.
Rhubarb leaves are toxic; apparently the plant concentrates arsenic in the leave. My great-grandfather, a very wise man, got tired of chasing me out of his rhubarb patch (he didn't care about me eating the rhubarb, he was worried I'd eat the leaves) so one day he took me aside, told me he had a secret to share about the right way to eat rhubarb, and told me the right way was to snap off all the leaf and throw it far away. Being about 3 years old I was totally sold, and showed all my friends. He never chased us out of the rhubarb patch after that because he could see us throwing the leaves away!😂
There was a CSI Miami episode once where someone used nicotine patches as a murder weapon. I was so stoked😂
A lot of plants leach metals like arsenic out of the ground, which is very cool of them. Some can be planted to help detoxify water sources, it’s cool stuff. Just yeah, don’t eat those ones, lol.
I didn’t know that about rhubarb! What a cute story 😊
I remember them well. My high school art teacher’s brother got arrested in Vegas for making ricin. It’s funny that poisons can be in fashion, like arsenic used to be all the rage back in the day. Anthrax had it’s moment... this might have to be a follow up, lol.
I find poisonous plants very interesting too! I just finished reading Killer Plants by Molly Williams.
Ooo, I’ve never heard of that one! Thanks for the rec!
Oh my...can you imagine gifting your entire family those bracelets not knowing they literally are holding hands with death?
I know right!? I get the attraction, that’s a cool looking legume, but wow.
Don't forget nicotne...a potent insecticide, 100% natural!😂

Very interesting, and you familiar with the book, Witches Garden by Sandra Lawrence?
I am! It’s been on my TBR forever, I should probably just buy it already 😂
I finally broke down and purchased a copy, I think you would like it!
I will! Thank you for putting it back on my radar!
Everyone remember those ricin letter attacks? We were pretty creeped out for a minute there!

"Poison Fashion" has a nice ring to it.
