I was thumbing through The Goetia this weekend and I got to thinking that summoning a demon squad would be fun. Some ride or die minions to help you through all the tough times. Think a motley crew along the lines of the Suicide Squad, but less… humanoid.
The Goetia or Ars Goetia is one part of five of a 17th century grimoire called The Lesser Key of Solomon the King, or Clavicula Salomonis Regis and the title refers to the art of summoning demons. Among other things the book has a list of seventy-two upper ranked denizens of Hell, some with pictures. The art mostly comes from another demonic compendium called the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum by Johann Weyer. The version I have also has some really… interesting art by Aleister Crowley, but he’s a topic for another day.
But back to my squad. Demons have specialties, they aren’t all great at everything, so it would be good to have a few on hand, if you really wanted to go for global domination, or just take down Vegas.
Here are my picks:
Barbatos
A regular looking fellow who can help you understand the language of animals and find treasure.
Paimon
Knows all kinds of things, including arts, science, and the mind. And he rides a camel.
Buer
I like Buer, because he likes plants and I think we could make some great poisons together.
Glasya-Labolas
Unfortunately not pictured but is a murderous doggo with wings. So, definitely on my team.
Furfur
Makes storms and stuff, very useful. Can look like a deer with a fiery tail OR and angel if you make him stand inside a triangle. Demon rules are so great. Crowley’s art? Not so much.
Malphas
Builds fortresses and knows what your enemies are thinking.
And last but not least, my favorite of all the demons, Phenex, the demon of poetry because of course I need a demon of poetry.
Have a great Macabre Monday!
Malphas in those pants, too cute!
Wow. There goes my day. So cool. Thank you for posting!
