Cursed by Juno to always have her children in her sight, children Juno herself had stolen, Lamia lost her mind and began to devour any children she saw. These acts turned her into a monster, half snake, half human.

Jupiter gave her the ability to take her eyes out, so she could rest. In later myths the lamia became a vampire of sorts, seducing young men before drinking their blood.
