The line "we're inside one now" is actually to be taken literally - the holographic theory has it that the universe is a giant black hole with all our 3D space encoded as a 2D hologram on the outer boundary
Ok that is going to take me a while and a few google side quests to read😂 But on the surface my question is, if we’re inside a black hole, wouldn’t our universe be turning into spaghetti? And if so, would it be expanding in two directions and contracting in two directions? As opposed to outward in all? I have a very basic understanding of all this so apologies if I have it all messed up😅
Short answer: no, because the spaghettification comes when you cross an event horizon (or even before) and not when you're inside where the gravity is - as far as they know - the same everywhere.
As for contracting, this could be a prob for the theory, but maybe not, as black holes evaporate when quantum leakage happens over the event horizon (aka Hawking radiation). This might happen but would be a tiny effect in comparison with existing expansion. And maybe there's nowhere for it to leak into anyway.
But I'm not expert and I'm waiting for my niece to graduate so I can ask her all this stuff. Presently I try to follow PBS Space/Time and Don Lincoln from Fermilabs on YouTube but my brain often melts while doing so.
Wave collapse, the “double-slit” experiment (Feynman said that was the only mystery in physics), Bose-Einstein condensates, quantum entanglement…it makes strange and unusual look mundane…😁
It’s not that it appears; it’s that the wave function collapses. It’s the Copenhagen Interpretation…a particle exists in all possible locations and states until you look at it, in which case all the states collapse into that one state…

Hmmm…. Shouldn’t have eaten her if he was going to miss her so much😜

Light everywhere
Then pain and unending dark
Now I only eat
I love this take, anthropomorphizing it makes it so much more horrifying🖤
Flattened choir, rejoice
From a hole in the sky sing
Your hymn to the light
Beautiful 🖤
All that falls inside is lost,
lost to time and to fate -
and we're inside one now
though we don't know it
So this is what slow annihilation is like? I… have complaints.

Haha! Also experiencing brain melt this month on a regular basis. 😅
Also the name of a 1979 movie from Disney.
Psh, I thought you were joking but no, there really is a Disney movie called Black Hole 🤷♀️
That was their attempt to copy "Star Wars" (they didn't own it then and were probably envious of its' box office take.)
It was terrible...
Light dies in this place
Bent and twisted beyond sense
Abandon normal
Ooo I love this! Normal is not really my scene🖤
Thanks...things get weird at relativistic speeds....😁
I am coming to find out this month that nothing is quite as it seems.
Ha! Do a month on quantum mechanics!

I have dabbled, and frequently find I am way in over my head😂
The double slit experiment I’ve seen on YouTube… I really don’t know how these guys sleep at night. Shit that only appears when you look at it? Wtaf 😱

See? Even weirder thanyou thought!😂
My (w)hole heart is black
Depths of which you swam into
Never to return
Hey, just my kind of man🖤
Senryū:
Sweating scientists
Decode a black hole's music
Air conditioner hums
.
Summer love affair
Pulled in by your gravity
No hope of escape
.
Pressure waves ripple
Through lazy afternoon naps
Cosmic dreams unfold
.
Fireflies dance by
Like photons at the event
Horizon's edge - gone
.
Ice cream melts quickly
Its atoms rearranging
Like matter in space
So beautiful! And so many unique interpretations🖤
A bottomless pit
How far does it go? Dare I
attempt to head in?
Maybe come out the white hole on the other side?
Black hole of death sings
Cruel slayer of beloved ones
Your voice haunts my dreams .
So beautiful! Sounds like the beginning of a great story, too🖤
Thank you for the opportunity to exercise my poetic muscles!
Of course! Thank you for joining us!
You are my first entry on Substack!
Been trying to figure it out and feel at home here. Thanks !
Ah cool! Well if you need any recommendations for stuff to read or other writers to hang with, let me know what you’re into!
There in the darkness,
Lies, those trapped inside, whose cries,
Remain unanswered... 😎
