Cold observation

From untouchable distance

Silent spectator

Honeygloom's avatar

So beautifully done๐Ÿ–ค I can totally imagine this distant and aloof planet coldly watching the rest of the galaxy.

Gravity wells deep

Outside looking inside. Push!

Fall towards the sun.

Lovely! And so graceful๐Ÿ–ค

Been reading about this elusive Planet Nine!

___

Planet Nine: An Ephemeris

Hypothetical you,

Neptune's shadowy twin

lurking beyond Pluto's pale.

Mathematics whispers your presence

in the dance of distant rocks,

their orbits a cryptic script.

Cold giant,

are you there?

Watchful eye in the void,

or phantom of our cosmic longing?

Telescope-gaze strains

across light-years of dark,

seeking your elusive face.

What secrets do you hoard

in your elongated exile?

What tales could you tell

of solar system's fringes,

of formation's ancient rites,

of gravity's patient sculpture?

You challenge our certainties,

Planet Nine,

with your maybe-there reality.

In seeking you,

we map the edges

of knowledge itself.โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹

Beautiful and deep, captures the ephemeral nature of the hypothetical. So so good๐Ÿ–ค

Absolutely brilliant! That really captures the essence of it so beautifully. "Phantom of our cosmic longing" is particularly wonderful... ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Gloria Horton-Young's avatar

Thank you. I look forward to Honeygloomโ€™s prompts. I learn something new everyday.

Chris J. Franklin's avatar

I really enjoy them, too. These space ones have been absolutely fascinating, and I've been learning a lot of new things... ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Ooo interesting take! I love the mystery and menace here๐Ÿ–ค

Out there, in the cold,

Just waiting for an invite,

To come and join us... ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Honeygloom's avatar

Love it!! I say we send the invite!

Chris J. Franklin's avatar

Absolutely! It's time to party! Planet Nine can be in charge of drinks. They're sure to stay ice cold. Haha... ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Gloria Horton-Young's avatar

Would you ever travel into space?

Chris J. Franklin's avatar

I'd probably be open to a quick orbit or two. It would be amazing to look back at the Earth and see how tiny it is in the vastness of the universe... ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Pluto doesn't count.

The real ninth planet is just

Called "Nine". Creative!

Honeygloom's avatar

Ha! I love this! It is a little lame, isnโ€™t it?

Songsterfunsterhamster's avatar

Do you cast shadows,

Too far from the light to see?

Do you doubt us, too?

Honeygloom's avatar

Very cool take! Such a lonely planet out there๐Ÿ–ค

Is this from Plan Nine? Iโ€™ve never seen it but I heard that Bela Lugosi was posthumously added to the movie. So wild! Iโ€™m really tempted to check it out now!

Facundo Rompehuevos's avatar

Yes it is, and you should definitely check it out. I think itโ€™s free on YouTube.

Honeygloom's avatar

Oh cool! Iโ€™ll look for it!

Oo I smell a conspiracy theory! Nicely done๐Ÿ–ค

A.P. Murphy's avatar

There are nine plans

There are nine planes

There are nine planets

A.P. Murphy's avatar

Explanatory bit:

Nine plans refers to Ed Woods' sci-fi classic film

Nine planes refers to Kabbalah and the Sefirot

Nine planets - when Clyde Tombaugh found Pluto in 1936 there were 9. Then there were 8, as Pluto got relegated to dwarf - sad planet.

So the universe invented another one to restore the balance. You can't just cancel planets like that!

Honeygloom's avatar

Ha! Team Pluto I see๐Ÿ˜œ

Embarrassingly, Iโ€™ve seen the Johnny Depp Ed Wood, but not the actual Plan Nine movie๐Ÿ˜…

There are 10 Sefirot, though I think. Maybe 11? I feel like there are two that can be combined to make it 10, but itโ€™s been a while since I read about Kabbalah tbh.

A.P. Murphy's avatar

No you're quite correct there are 10 Sefirot in orthodox Kabbalah studies. I only count 9, as the crown Keter is pure woo-woo, metaphysical and not connected to the physical planes. It doesn't really exist.

I never studied it, but angels tell me stuff about it all the time, though thinking about it now, they might actually be demons.

Honeygloom's avatar

I used to have a ceiling fan that vibrated with the voices of angels.
