So beautifully done🖤 I can totally imagine this distant and aloof planet coldly watching the rest of the galaxy.

Been reading about this elusive Planet Nine!

___

Planet Nine: An Ephemeris

Hypothetical you,

Neptune's shadowy twin

lurking beyond Pluto's pale.

Mathematics whispers your presence

in the dance of distant rocks,

their orbits a cryptic script.

Cold giant,

are you there?

Watchful eye in the void,

or phantom of our cosmic longing?

Telescope-gaze strains

across light-years of dark,

seeking your elusive face.

What secrets do you hoard

in your elongated exile?

What tales could you tell

of solar system's fringes,

of formation's ancient rites,

of gravity's patient sculpture?

You challenge our certainties,

Planet Nine,

with your maybe-there reality.

In seeking you,

we map the edges

of knowledge itself.

I'd probably be open to a quick orbit or two. It would be amazing to look back at the Earth and see how tiny it is in the vastness of the universe... 😎

There are nine plans

There are nine planes

There are nine planets

Expand full comment
A.P. Murphy's avatar

Explanatory bit:

Nine plans refers to Ed Woods' sci-fi classic film

Nine planes refers to Kabbalah and the Sefirot

Nine planets - when Clyde Tombaugh found Pluto in 1936 there were 9. Then there were 8, as Pluto got relegated to dwarf - sad planet.

So the universe invented another one to restore the balance. You can't just cancel planets like that!

Expand full comment
Honeygloom's avatar

Ha! Team Pluto I see😜

Embarrassingly, I’ve seen the Johnny Depp Ed Wood, but not the actual Plan Nine movie😅

There are 10 Sefirot, though I think. Maybe 11? I feel like there are two that can be combined to make it 10, but it’s been a while since I read about Kabbalah tbh.

Expand full comment
A.P. Murphy's avatar

No you're quite correct there are 10 Sefirot in orthodox Kabbalah studies. I only count 9, as the crown Keter is pure woo-woo, metaphysical and not connected to the physical planes. It doesn't really exist.

I never studied it, but angels tell me stuff about it all the time, though thinking about it now, they might actually be demons.
