It’s possible our universe isn’t in a true vacuum, but a false one, an unstable one.

Your prompt is VACUUM DECAY.

We’re metastable

We could stay that way, or you

Could fuck it all up

If we aren’t in a true vacuum, if we’re in an unstable universe, a false vacuum, then something could, at any time, push the universe into a phase change. Essentially the false vacuum would decay and the true vacuum would take its place. This could, in the blink of an eye, destroy life and chemistry as we know it. Read more here and here.
