Referring of course to the preChristian Gaelic belief in metempsychosis or reincarnation. In this time death was considered merely as a passing into a new life and of no consequence at all. Gaels were considered to have no fear of death whatsoever by Romans and Romano-British like St Patrick.

Which is why the Morrigan isn't such a gloomy spirit as appears in later legends. She counted the dead in battle rather like points in a basketball game.
