I've been meaning to ask how wards work against intruders. Do they bounce off like a force field or do they unconsciously and unaccountably decide to go a different way?
Depends on the ward, some can cause harm to the intruder, some kind of camouflage a place so it doesn’t appear to be there, others will cause a sense of foreboding, some trigger curses, all kinds of fun stuff.
I think I mentioned Stephen Blackmore’s Eric Carter urban fantasy series. Wards there will often literally just explode, which is not something I’ve seen in any historical magic research I’ve done, but a neat trick nonetheless.
This is one big, gooey bucket of yuck! Love the way you have one type of "monster" helping out another. That sort of thing happens in nature all the time, so why not here?
Loved it. Thank you.
🙏
this was really satisfying. you made him so annoying with so few words.
❤️
That inner ear quote makes far more sense than I could have expected to, even in context.
Cool story though!! Very unexpected, and feels pretty light for how dark it is. That guy really had no business being there...
I'm glad for these short stories in the moment, while the Deadwater series feels like a monolith to tackle another time.
Ah, yeah. Making Deadwater a little less intimidating is part of my summer todo list😅
Cute sluggies I want a pet sluggie
Same, so squish.
Fun, and elegantly written as always.

"content" is the most horrible word of this text, the rest is awesome 👍
