Interestingly, we drew The Devil today. I wasn’t sure how to read it though, in light of everything I’ve learned from Mal. It would seem that the card, generally read as negative and linked to addiction and codependent relationships… is wrong? If Satan is not the negative figure I always thought him to be, what does this card mean?
“Are you going to sit there in silence all day? I mean I’m used to you staring off into space for hours on end when you’re ‘writing’,” air quotes are an unfortunate modernism he’s picked up, “but I need answers.” August waved an icy, ephemeral hand in front of my face and grumbled.
“Sorry, I just don’t know how to read this. I guess, no matter how you see the Devil, the card is a warning to examine your life and relationships, and that isn’t inherently bad.”
“So I should examine my life and relationships?”
"You should be careful about anything addictive in your life… or any harmful relationships.”
“Hellbunny, what say you?” August leaned down to the bunny cage and petted the rabbit.
“August, we’re not consulting-“
“The Devil does not believe in excess, it harms the soul and the Earth,” the rabbit intoned, his voice was deep and resonant.
“Hmm… thanks Hellbunny.” August vanished. The rabbit laughed and went back to munching hay.
