“It’s Four of Swords reversed today,” I said to August over my shoulder. I’ve been under a deadline lately and haven’t had much time for his troublemaking. I could feel him hanging over me though, dripping icy looks down on my head.
“Mental strength, ha. I have no mind, I guess that’s why it’s reversed. Some kind of mental strength and action…” he trailed off. August is terrible at introspection these days. He can’t even meditate anymore.
“Finding Evelyn?” I offered. He hadn’t spoken about her lately, but when I first released him from her parasol she was his favorite subject.
“Evelyn? You know, I was once married to a woman named Evelyn. We declared our meeting kismet because my middle name is Evelyn and her first was also.” I turned to watch him, to see if he was joking around or not. I don’t think he was, as he dissolved into the bookcase his weird grin morphed into the most heartbreaking visage.
“Oh, August..” I’ve never wished I could hug him, until today.
